What is SSO / MFA and does the LMS support it?

SSO (Single Sign-On) lets people log into the LMS using credentials they already have — their Google, Microsoft, or company account — instead of remembering another password. MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) adds a second check, like a code from a phone, so a stolen password alone isn't enough to get in.

Why they matter:

  • SSO improves adoption (no new password to forget) and lets IT control access centrally — disable someone's main account and their LMS access goes too.
  • MFA sharply reduces the risk of compromised accounts, which matters when the LMS holds personal or compliance data.

For larger organisations, finance, and government, SSO and MFA are often requirements, not nice-to-haves. Smaller teams may not need them on day one but benefit from the option as they grow. When evaluating an LMS, confirm whether SSO/MFA is included or an add-on — it's a common item to sit behind a higher tier.
